CREATING SAFE SPACE FOR IMMIGRANTS TO BE INDIVIDUALS DURING AN ERA OF FEAR-INDUCING & HOMOGENIZING RHETORIC
Through a partnership led by Made in the Lower East Side and the Tenement Museum, I worked with a group of community designers to respond to the rhetoric around immigration during the 2016 United States presidential campaign. Aware of the need for spaces for civil person-to-person conversations amidst the fear and tension of the moment, we developed a week-long pop-up event inviting conversation around the question "How might we break down boundaries and foster connection?” Our site was a vacant storefront on NYC’s Lower East Side.
